V. L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Kov\u00e1cs-Vilmos Zsigmond Cinematographer Competition<\/p>\n
On the eve of the Hungarian Film Day, the L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Kov\u00e1cs-Vilmos Zsigmond Cinematographer Awards will be presented at the Vigad\u00f3 of Pest. In addition to the traditional categories, the gala will present various awards to members of the Hungarian cinematography community who have defined the world of Hungarian filmmaking for decades. <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n The event (the Golden Eye Cinematographer Festival) was renamed after the death of legendary cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, after two outstanding figures of the Hungarian film. Since 2004, the competition has recognized Hungarian and international film professionals such as J\u00e1nos Badal, Billy Williams, M\u00e1ty\u00e1s Erd\u00e9ly, Istv\u00e1n Hildebrand, Gy\u00f6rgy Ill\u00e9s, J\u00e1nos Kende, Lajos Koltai, L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Kov\u00e1cs, Tibor M\u00e1th\u00e9, S\u00e1ndor S\u00e1ra, J\u00e1nos T\u00f3th, Mari T\u00f6r\u0151csik, Vittorio Storaro and Vilmos Zsigmond. <\/span><\/p>\n On April 29th the L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Kov\u00e1cs-Zsigmond Vilmos Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Mikl\u00f3s Gurb\u00e1n, a B\u00e9la Bal\u00e1zs Prize-winning cinematographer, who is known for his photography of films such as Gy\u00f6rgy Feh\u00e9r's Twilight<\/i> (1990) and Passion <\/i>(1998), K\u00e1roly Makk's Lili<\/i> (2003), Gergely Z. Horv\u00e1th\u2019s Erd\u00e9ly aranykora <\/i>(1989) or Mikl\u00f3s Szinet\u00e1r's Cosi fan tutte <\/i>(1997).<\/p>\n The organizers also honor the career of Tam\u00e1s Szabados, cinematographer and director with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Szabados defined the world of Hungarian television with his films We Went to Antarctica <\/i>(1968), One and a Half Million Steps in Hungary <\/i>(1979), the Mazsola<\/i> series and documentaries, and his collaborations with psychologist Margit Rozsnyai. <\/span><\/p>\n This year, the B\u00e9la Bojkovszky Award goes to the chief lighting technician J\u00f3zsef Simon, who has worked in such captivating films as Tamara<\/i> (2004) Son of Saul <\/i>(2015) Enternal Winter <\/i>(2018) and The Turin Horse<\/i> (2011).<\/p>\n After many years, the HSC rings will be handed over again. The rings were first awarded in 2007 to film industry workers who made high-quality contributions to the production of a film as a collaborator of the cinematographer. This year, the organizers are recognizing the work of two professionals who in recent years have made a great effort to ensure that the film industry has well-qualified future workers.\u2028
\nOn the one hand, B\u00e1lint Marafk\u00f3, who has worked on films such as So Much for Justice<\/i> (2010), Queen of Sheba<\/i> (2021), Cedars<\/i> (2022), K\u00e1rolyi<\/i> (2021) and Aranybulla<\/i> (2022), will be honored. Besides his achievements in these films, he also provides lighting, visual and stage design services for numerous films, TV productions and events with his company Two Men's Show Lighting.\u2028
\nThe other HSC ring goes to cinematographer Endre Schwindl, who, together with his company Schwindl Ltd., has been involved in the production, cinematography and editing of Hungarian films and TV productions since 1995.<\/p>\n
